A NOTORIOUS pedophile, who once likened victims to a "piece of meat". was yesterday arrested
for allegedly breaching his restraining order. Detectives detained Philip Corlett Cryer, 71, at his Mt Barker home about
5pm for allegedly approaching a five- year-old boy near his home. Police said Cryer was questioned at Mt Barker Police
Station and charged. He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrate's Court today. Detectives yesterday
spoke with the child at Mt Barker South Primary School before taking him to the police station where his interview was recorded.
Cryer has more than 30 convictions since 1961 for molesting pre-pubescent and teenage boys. His last conviction was
in July 2000. when he was sentenced to more than 11 months' jail for approaching two boys, aged 12 and 14, at Aldinga beach.
That' was Cryer's third breach of a restraining order, under which he was barred from loitering in any public place where
children were present. As part of the order he is not allowed to speak to children. Two weeks ago police warned Adelaide
Hills schools to be vigilant after learning Cryer moved to Mt Barker from Elizabeth Downs on June 10. Several schools
issued letters to parents warning them a pedophile had moved to the town and to watch their children at playgrounds, parks
and shopping centres.
